Can I install VELUX skylights myself, or do I need professional help?

Some homeowners with experience in roofing and construction may choose to install skylights themselves. However, for best results and to ensure proper sealing, insulation, and code compliance, VELUX recommends using a certified installer. VELUX provides a network of trained professionals for this purpose.

How do I clean and maintain VELUX skylights?

VELUX skylights require minimal maintenance. To clean the glass, use a soft cloth with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners. Periodically inspect the flashing and remove any debris from drainage channels to maintain optimal function and prevent blockages.

Do VELUX products meet building code requirements?

Yes, all VELUX Skylights, Roof Windows and Sun Tunnels have been tested or certified for numerous building code requirements. Some of these include Weatherproofing, Health and Amenity, Structural integrity, Overhead Safety Glazing, Glazing in High Wind areas, Bushfire Prone areas, Energy Efficiency, Natural Light & Ventilation
requirements.

Pitched Roof Skylights (FS,VS, VSE, VSS). What is the frame out size for pitched Skylights?

The frame out size is the width and the height of the skylight. The clearance between the rafters must be at least the width of the rooflight, battens are framed according to the roofing material requirements, with additional support battens are added at the top and bottom of the rooflight. 

Can I get a custom sized skylight?

Unfortunately we do not make special sized skylights. Our existing range has a comprehensive list of sizes suitable for all situations or building types.

Flat Roof Skylights (FCM, VCM,VCS) - What is the frame out sizes for flat roof Skylights?

When framing out, a purpose-built curb (for the skylight to fit onto) is made equal to the overall curb dimension of the flat roof skylight that you are using.

Can flat roof skylights be turned and installed sideways?

The Fixed Flat Roof Skylight (FCM) can be installed in portrait, landscape or even diamond shape orientation. Your builder will need to design the appropriate custom flashing.

Note: VELUX recommends that the FCM 2270, 3072 & 4672 are not installed in a landscape orientation.

Openable flat roof skylights cannot be installed sideways, however a “landscape” size is available (VCS 4622: 1275x665)

Which Sun Tunnel should I use: Flexible or Rigid?

The Flexible tunnel is suitable for short tunnel lengths (up to 2mtrs) or when obstacles in the roof space prevent the use of a Rigid Sun Tunnel.The Rigid Sun Tunnel should be used, with extensions where possible, for longer tunnel lengths to maximise light output.

What is the expected lead time for delivery?
